VIVA (INCL. A 25 MINUTE COVER OF FLOYD'S 'ECHOES')

SPACE-ROCK (PSYCH)

A fantastic 6 track / fifty-seven minute mix of space-rock, psychedelia and early 70’s prog in a mainly instrumental showcase that features some wicked electric guitars, special effects, synths, drums and samples. It’s a blending of laid-back and driving Hawkwind, early Pink Floyd with a few touches of progressive-rock, with a female vocalist that provides just the right accompaniment on the odd song part of the show. The album was recorded live at the Quarkstock Festival in June 2000 - It has all the energy and excitement of a ‘live’ show, plus it’s an excellent quality recording, so there should be no worries about that side of things. Raw & dynamic, this is essential space-rock for early 70’s Floyd and psych-rock fans!

After a selection of four electrifying space/psych-rock/prog based pieces that really catch fire, you come to track 5, which is a massive twenty-two minute cover version of the mighty Pink Floyd’s ‘Echoes’, here faithfully recreated, but given the band’s own leaning in terms of texture from the synths and keyboards - all very full-sounding, with some superb electric guitar work and the breathy female vocals taking the piece into a wholly new, yet familiar dimension. For such a ‘sacred’ track, they carry it off effortlessly and, Floyd fan or not, you really will derive huge long-term enjoyment out of this version, believe me! The album ends on the near fourteen-minute instrumental ‘Kairos’, possibly and surprisingly, even stronger than the Floyd cover, with some scorching psychedelic electric guitar work, dramatic drums and percussion, plus a huge sound that just takes off and slowly builds a head of steam. Initially the group prefer to keep the textures and wild ‘Interstellar Overdrive’ style (only more psychedelic) guitar work searing out into the night sky, as the piece just builds and intensifies, eventually erupting in mind-blowing musical fireworks around the ten-minute mark to transport you off the planet and into a mind-expanding universe of phased soundscapes, driving space-rock and red hot guitars. It must have been an amazing sight to witness the band playing this monumental track at the event!
