INNER TRANSLUCENCE

CLASSIC (EURO-ROCK)

With this album, you can almost hear the group saying - “Right, now that we've got all of THAT out of our system, we can REALLY start to explore the musical universe”; and, sure enough, on this follow-up to their debut release ‘Searching For The Elusive Rainbow’, they do just that. Overall, the sound is more essentially 'low key' than its predecessor, with which it complements quite perfectly, and it’s a fantastic instrumental album and equally essential listening. It's more solid, more interesting, well cohesive, flows well, and has an underlying powerful edge to it. The band features a wealth of guitars, bass, drums and synths/electronic effects, playing a highly charged yet restrained and brilliant amalgam of Kraut-influenced space music. Again, as with the first album, this compares well with things that were heard on the amazing live album from Agitation Free and is less noisy than early Guru Guru.

The opening twenty-two minutes across the 3 compositions is a lot more intricate and less immediate than before, with all sorts of layers from synths, treated guitars, electronics, flute and a steady, but powerful rhythm section. That rhythm section comes across like a classic 'Eugene' Floyd meets Agitation Free manner - all very carefully studied and constructed to breathtaking effect. It is mostly spacey-cosmic music, produced in the same way that the early Krautrock pioneers might have done it, whilst still having a pronounced rhythm section well in place. Track 4, at just over four minutes, drops the rhythms entirely for a voyage into the unknown on waves of scorching electric guitars, cymbal splashes, synths and space swoops, and all to superb effect. Track 5, at just under five minutes, immediately goes for the kill, with a lead guitar that is nuclear hot, played over a powerhouse of rumbling drums, bass and assorted electronic backdrops, all guaranteed to leave you and your sound system in a heap of smokin' rubble! Track 6 is just over two minutes long and features spacey synths, guitars and effects before it moves on into the twenty minute track 7, the final track, which is not a fast and furious outing, but a slow moving, multi-layered, space music affair. However, it’s not just any old piece of space music - This one begins with smooth synths and cascading guitar lines that are all very “out there”, before percussion and bass enter with a subtle rhythmic drive, and then the composition starts to unfold, always changing at it goes, with the group all contributing to the proceedings, and making it so much more than just your average cosmic track.
