CITRUS CLOUD COVER (2CD)

CLASSIC (EURO-ROCK)

Over two hours of instrumental music is on this, the official third album from this exciting new contemporary group. With a vast instrument line-up that includes keyboards/synthesizers, guitars, bass, drums, percussion, sampler, feedback generator, processed bass, e-bow, electric auto-harp, octapads and other various electronic devices, this recording takes their previous Cosmic Jokers/Agitation Free/Guru Guru style of instrumental music into yet another new, exciting and fresh musical dimension. Sensibly however, they have not left their roots behind entirely, so the mix of old and new on this double set is extremely satisfying. This inventive, atmospheric music comes via a massive array of layered sound pools and a sense of space and spaciousness that holds you from start to finish. The moods change from reflective to swirling whirlpools of melodic ensemble work, as the exotic combination of instruments showcase a sound that positively spirals into the outer reaches of the galaxy and back.

With tracks ranging from three to thirty-one minutes long (four or more clock in between eleven and twenty-three), you get a huge array of guitars, effects, drums, synths, generators and more on one of the most epic space/Kraut-styled musical voyages that you'll hear. Fantastic cosmic guitar work is strong feature, and this sounds almost as if Manuel Gottsching was doing lead duties in Guru Guru, allied to thick soundscapes and massive spacey territories. In actual fact, the whole group seen to jus flow through these compositions, but the guitars just seem to feature more prominently than you might expect for a more synth-biased music like this. More importantly, there is a strong structure and sense of carefully crafted musicianship to the tracks on the CD, rather than just a series of aimless jams. The drum work is also a central factor as well – almost in the same way that Harald Grossbkopf is to the electronic bands in which he operates. All tracks exude a similar sense of melody to that of Agitation Free when they played longer tracks. Contrary to the comparisons offered here, this is not retro-sounding music, although it will be enjoyed by anyone who was and still is) into these bands of the 1970's.So, you really can't afford not to hear this band, and your first purchase, should be this one. From there, you might want to work back to the previous two studio offerings (and the ltd edition ‘live’ album), but get into this one for sure - you won't regret it.
