Anubian Lights are Nik Turner, members of Pressurehed, and ex-Hawkwind members Del Dettmar and Simon House. From the booming opening sound of synths, electronics & voices, a middle Eastern style drum rhythm rises from the depths and roars along while various combinations of flute, Egyptian sounding guitars and electronics flow effortlessly over the top creating an expansive soundscape that recalls Turner's old ‘Sphynx Xitintoday’ album, but much more urgent and less self indulgent. Track 3 is a stunner, with its slower, rhythmic ambient drum rhythms over which more, but different sounding layers of synths, percussion and guitar are piled on. From then on it covers a huge musical range from soaring synths and electric violin through some strong electric guitar work and multi-rhythmic content from synths, synth bass and electric percussion, with the Egyptian influence never far from the surface. A varied yet consistently excellent CD, which contains seventy-one minutes of incredible music!

It may be called an EP, but it consists of fifty minutes of incredible multi-layered predominantly keyboard / electronics / percussion dominated music that is simply astounding. It features 3 radical remixes from an album, plus 3 new tracks and a live version of 'Soul Herder'. It’s a flowing album with a full sound and a great production, full of vastly structured melodic, rhythmic compositions that have a real 'travelling' quality to them. Worthy of any of the Spiral Realms and similar synth based space-rock albums, but more crystalline in its form with plenty going on to keep you going back to it time after time.

Still regarded as one of his finest albums to date, this is a largely instrumental slice of Hawkwind-esque driving space-rock, with the guitarist on top form as a series of searing licks and steaming riffs storm out of the speakers on a fine selection of surging tracks. Complete with great dynamics, care of the synthesizers and rhythm section, plus an exclusive ‘live’ track from the Nik Turner band of the time, for which he was lead guitarist. Overall, this is one barnstormer of an album.

A somewhat apt title for the follow-up to the ‘Van Allan Belt’ album, and this time around, it’s an album full of essentially scorching space-rock songs. The band are on real hot form as they whip up an instrumental galaxian storm, hurtling through the material like their lives depended on it, sounding like something between driving Hawkwind and early Pressurehed - Not quite typical space-rock, but not so raw as to be space-punk either. The production and playing here is top notch, and the songs stand up well to a lot of playing, so definitely a winner!

What you get here from the highly underrated space-rock guitarist are two albums on one disc, mixing songs and instrumentals to great effect. The pace is mostly fairly rapid space-rock/psychedelia style, with guitars, bass and drums taking off like rockets, particularly on the spectacular mind-trip that is the ‘Superior’ album, as it blazes a scorching trail of electric guitars, thunderous bass, crashing drums and phased effects across a dark sky - Totally mesmerising music, great songs and great value too!
