We suggest you don’t waste any time if you find a title you really want from the section of the shop, because the chances are you won’t see it again!

Neo classical gothic electronic side project by Penitent, and this is one beautiful album, but with more depth and strong structure than you’ll find on many such albums. There are waves of expansive synths, strings, choirs, and bass, balanced by the delicacy of keyboards, melodies, huge gothic organ-like chords, swirling tapestries of sound, hushed, barely discernable female voices and a rich textural quality that takes you off into a wholly new realm. It has all the hallmarks of being in another place, another time, but has a science fantasy feel to it, and way better than any book at conjuring mental images that stretch from horizon to horizon. It’s the listener’s own thoughts and feelings – You make of it what you experience – A magnificent album.

The rhythmic tracks are positively bone crunching, while the textural/layered electronic passages, free of rhythm, are downright spine tingling. The sheer wealth of musical invention is just dazzling, as you are blinded by a work of undoubted genius and blown away by some of the hardest mid-paced industrial-oriented drum rhythms on the planet. The bass is so deep and resonant; the drums explode in your head and the surrounds of electronics, loops and synths never end. Add to that, a crystal clear production, fantastic compositions and arrangements, a spooky atmosphere throughout, and you have not only his finest and most accessible work to date, but also a major skull-cruncher of an album that goes down in industrial music history as classic status.

Yet another predominantly instrumental Gothic album with a twist! This time, all the lead work is done on piano, but a piano played to sound alternately delicate and melodic, plus mighty and towering. Under that you get a bass synth undercurrent accompanied by soaring layers of string synths, all with that sombre, (but here not as dark as some) atmosphere that makes the music so hypnotic and, in this case, it works like a charm. Never has the combination of piano and synths sounded this solid, surging ahead to new heights on a truly remarkable album.
